Boracay, El Nido and Tagaytay weddings

From Boracay’s chalk-white sands to the private island hideaways dotting the coasts of Coron and El Nido, The Philippines offers unique island locations for couples searching for the ultimate destination wedding experience.

THE PHILIPPINES: Asia’s next destination wedding location?

The Philippines is a bit of a paradox in terms of a destination wedding location. The cuisine isn’t as well-known as Thai or Vietnamese, and aside from Boracay, most of its 7,000 islands are still considered a bit “off the map” for most people.

But the Philippines has two distinct advantages as a location for destination weddings.

First: the people. Filipinos are known the world over as some of the friendliest you’ll ever meet. And every couple I know who’s had their destination wedding in the Philippines has come away gushing about how friendly and generally wonderful the people were.

Second: the Philippines has the most incredible island and beach experience in Southeast Asia. Period. White, powdery sand. Crystal clear turquoise waters. Sure, some of those islands require a little extra time and effort to get to, but they are worth it. From Palawan and Coron to Bohol and Siargao, the Philippines could be the ideal place for your destination wedding.

      BORACAY: black tie beach parties

Boracay is easily the most famous of the islands here, and its where I visit most often as a Philippines wedding photographer. And for good reason – its easily accessible (a short flight from Manila), has gorgeous beaches and blue waters, and has one of the very best resorts in Southeast Asia – the elegant Shangri-La Boracay. There’s also a ton of activities available on the island that are perfect for a destination wedding – paragliding, windsurfing, snorkeling, and a great nightlife. It’s busy, it’s not always kept pristine clean, but if you want an accessible, beautiful island with lots of things to do for an energetic group, Boracay has it all.

EL NIDO: some of the most exclusive venues in Asia

El Nido and Coron in Palawan offer something different from Boracay – exclusivity. Top of the list are Amanpulo and El Nido resorts, and Ariara Private Island. White sands, limestone cliffs – South Pacific paradise. All offer peace and quiet and incredible service, and at a cost. But if cost isn’t a major issue, these are among the best destinations in all of Asia.
