Indian Wedding at JW Khao Lak Resort | Shabeena and Asif
Reason #147 why I love photographing destination weddings – A Pakistani-American couple fly out from Dallas to Thailand for their South Asian wedding in Khao Lak (near Phuket). Friends and family from all around the world descend on the quiet beach town to join their three-day celebration.
But then it rains. And rains and rains and rains. I ask Asif, the groom, how he feels about the weather forecast. He simply shrugs his shoulders and says, “we have lots of alcohol!” I know he’s kind of joking, but I also know that he feels their wedding celebration is about more than things just looking pretty. Its about celebrating family and friends from near and far. Its about celebrating their culture, and joining their families together. About creating memories, and forging bonds. And sure, maybe a little bit about tequila too.
So all the events were held indoors, but the amazing team at Magnificence Events pulled it off, creating beautiful spaces for guests to enjoy the classic South Asian wedding events – Mehndi, Sangeet and reception parties. Even an after-hours pyjama party, which I’m not sure is a South Asian tradition, but was fantastic anyway.
I knew it was going to be a great three-days, regardless of the skies above. And it was.
